Vocational Rehabilitation

Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Counselors work with individuals with disabilities to assist them in attaining employment and becoming or remaining economically self-sufficient.

The program helps participants to:

  • Define their vocational goals,
  • Identify disability-related barriers to their employment,
  • Develop a plan to resolve the barriers,
  • Connect with services and resources to help achieve their goals.

The Arizona Governor’s Council on Spinal and Head Injuries partners with VR by supporting TBI & SCI Specialists, Counselors who are specially trained to work with clients with traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury.

The Vocational Rehabilitation program is part of the Rehabilitation Services Administration, within the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES).

By statute, a representative of DES serves on the Governor’s Council.
